Frequently Asked Questions¶
Quick answers to common questions about PazGolf.
General Questions¶
Who is PazGolf for?
PazGolf started with golf clubs and now covers the whole game:
- Golf clubs - PazGolf Lite gives every visitor, member, and society digital scorecards via QR codes, plus competitions and handicaps
- Golf societies - competitions, live leaderboards, handicaps, and member management without the spreadsheets
- Individual golfers - PazGolf Personal tracks your Fair Play Index, lets you score anywhere, and even form your own society
- Corporate golf days - one QR code per group, live leaderboard, zero paper
- Society trips - multi-day trips with teams, daily competitions, and a trip leaderboard
- Venues with food & drink - Snax lets golfers order from the course
See paz.golf for what fits you best.
Can I try PazGolf before committing?
Yes, and you don't even need to sign up. Visit paz.golf/try, scan the QR code with your phone, and you're scoring on a live demo venue straight away - digital scorecard, live leaderboard, side games, the lot. No account, no card details.
Want a guided walkthrough for your club or society? Contact us and we'll set one up.
What makes PazGolf different from other golf software?
Two things: golfers score live from their own phones, and handicaps keep running when other systems can't.
Live scoring - players enter scores as they play. Leaderboards update in real time for everyone watching, side games like Skins settle themselves, and there's no pile of cards to type in afterwards.
Courses as they really are - traditional golf software struggles with:
- Shortened courses - temporary layouts, closed holes
- Changed routings - winter tees, temporary greens
- Non-standard configurations - 12-hole rounds, combined nines
Our Custom Course Creator lets you set up any course configuration with proper ratings, so your members always have fair, accurate handicaps - even when playing off mats or with modified layouts. No more "unofficial" rounds that don't count.
Is PazGolf suitable for my small society?
Absolutely! PazGolf gives societies all the features that golf clubs provide for their members:
- Automated scoring - no more manually calculating Stableford points
- Live results - leaderboards update as scores come in
- Fair handicaps - proper Fair Play Index tracking for all members
- Easy management - competitions, members, and results all in one place
No more spreadsheets or someone trying to work out winners at the end of the day. It's all automated.
Can visiting groups score without PazGolf accounts?
Yes. Clubs on PazGolf Lite put up a QR code: a visiting fourball or society scans it, enters their names and handicaps, and scores their round with a live leaderboard - no accounts, no app, no setup for the club on the day. Corporate and society day formats handle larger visiting fields too.
Do members need to download an app?
No app download required! PazGolf works in any web browser on:
- Smartphones (iPhone, Android)
- Tablets (iPad, Android tablets)
- Computers (Windows, Mac, Linux)
Members can add a shortcut to their home screen for app-like access.
Live Scoring Questions¶
How does live scoring work?
One player in the group (or each player individually) enters scores hole by hole on their phone. Everything else is automatic:
- The leaderboard updates in real time for players and spectators
- Stableford points, course handicaps, and stroke allocations are calculated for you
- Side games running alongside the round update as scores go in
- Scores are saved as you go, so a dropped signal on the 14th doesn't lose your card
Can people follow a competition without playing?
Yes. The live leaderboard has a spectator view - anyone with the link can watch positions change as groups come in, which is exactly what the clubhouse TV is for.
Winter Golf Questions¶
How do winter handicaps work?
Winter handicaps in PazGolf:
- Start from official end-of-season handicaps
- Track performance during non-qualifying months
- Adjust based on winter scores (doesn't affect official handicap)
- Automatically revert when qualifying season returns
- Keep competitions fair when official handicaps are frozen
What happens to winter data when summer returns?
All winter data remains available while your subscription is active:
- Accessible anytime for year-on-year comparisons
- Available in reports
- Kept separate from official records
Data is retained according to our retention policy. If a subscription lapses, data may be deleted after a period of time.
Competition Questions¶
What competition formats are supported?
PazGolf supports individual and team play:
- Stroke Play - lowest gross or net score wins
- Stableford - points-based scoring (most popular)
- Texas Scramble - team format with drive requirements handled automatically
- Fourball Better Ball - pairs, best score on each hole counts
- Winter Leagues - team and individual leagues across the off-season
- Match play leagues - weekly matchplay with handicap allocations per match
Side games such as Skins and Fourball Better Ball can also run alongside any round, scored live from the same card.
How do I handle a shotgun start?
No special setup required! Players simply enter their scores starting from whichever hole they began on. The digital scorecard works the same regardless of starting hole - scores are recorded hole by hole and totals are calculated automatically.
Can I run multiple competitions on the same day?
Yes! You can run simultaneous competitions for different groups or formats.
Even better - if a player is entered in multiple competitions on the same day (for example, a society competition alongside a club competition), one score entry automatically gets allocated to all the competitions they've entered. No need to enter scores twice.
How do I handle no-shows and DQs?
No-shows simply don't have a score entered - they won't appear on the leaderboard.
If an attestation is rejected (for example, if a playing partner disputes the score), the player is automatically marked as DQ and this shows on the leaderboard.
Handicap Questions¶
How does handicapping work in PazGolf?
PazGolf uses the Fair Play Index (FPI) - a robust handicap calculation system based on industry-standard principles. Features include:
- Automatic handicap calculations after each round
- Fair adjustments based on course difficulty
- Winter handicaps - Keep competitions fair during non-qualifying months
How quickly are handicaps updated?
Handicaps are updated automatically as soon as scores are attested by playing partners. No waiting, no manual processing required.
Committees also have tools to manually adjust handicaps if needed.
Can I manually adjust handicaps?
Only an admin from your handicap maintainer club can adjust your Fair Play Index. This ensures handicaps are managed consistently by the club responsible for maintaining your record.
